During the Holocaust, the Nazis issued a special, worthless currency for use within Jewish ghettos as a tool of exploitation, isolation, and deception. By confiscating all real money and valuables in exchange for this scrip, the Nazis stole the wealth of Jewish communities and further cemented their total control. 

This "ghetto money" was issued in Nazi-controlled ghettos across German-occupied Europe, not in Germany itself, since most were in occupied Poland. The most well-known examples are from the Łódź and Theresienstadt ghettos
