In 1916, the 7th (Queen's Own) Hussars was stationed in India, primarily based in Meerut. While much of the British Army was engaged on the Western Front, this regular cavalry regiment remained in India for internal security and frontier duties before being deployed to the Mesopotamian campaign later in the war.
