The Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert's) was a distinguished regiment of the British Army with a lineage spanning nearly 300 years, from its formation in 1685 until its amalgamation in 1959

Origins (1685): Raised as the Earl of Huntingdon's Regiment of Foot to suppress the Monmouth Rebellion.

"The 13th Foot": Formally numbered as the 13th Regiment of Foot in 1751, a title it held for over a century.

Jalalabad & Royal Patronage (1842): After a legendary defence of Jalalabad during the First Afghan War, Queen Victoria renamed the unit Prince Albert's Regiment of Light Infantry.

Last Out of India (1948): The 1st Battalion held the unique honour of being the last British military unit to leave India following independence.
