The War Medal 1939–1945 is a British campaign medal instituted on August 16, 1945, to recognize the full-time service of the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy during the Second World War

Qualified Personnel: Awarded to all full-time members of the Armed Forces (Army, Royal Navy, RAF) and the Merchant Navy regardless of their theatre of service.

Minimum Service: Requires at least 28 days of service between September 3, 1939, and September 2, 1945.

Merchant Navy: The 28-day requirement must have been served at sea.

Automatic Qualification: Personnel who received a Campaign Star (such as the 1939–1945 Star) for service under 28 days were automatically awarded the War Medal.
