The RAOC was responsible for the supply, storage, and repair of most weaponry, ammunition, clothing, and vehicles (until 1942, when vehicle repair was transferred to the REME). The cap badge reflects this history, using the ancient arms of the Board of Ordnance which managed military supplies for centuries. The corps' own motto was Sua tela tonanti ("To the warrior his arms").
