WWI Hotchkiss .303 Machine Gun Ammunition Box for Mark V Tank

A scarce ammunition box for the MkV and Medium Mark A British Whippet tanks. These boxes contained the Hotchkiss ammunition for the machine guns of the Tank. Leather straps on either side are in good condition. On the front is stencilled MARK V AND MEDIUM MARK HOTCHKISS AMMUNITION BOX, this is faded. Inside still remains part of the instructions. There would have been six compartments, these have been removed, for the belts of Hothkiss feed strips.

Two 6-pounder (57-mm) 6 cwt QF guns with 207 rounds;

four .303 in (7.7-mm) Hotchkiss Mk 1 Machine Gun

Female Tank:

Six .303 in Hotchkiss Mk 1 Machine Gun
